Hummus and Moomins

I was looking through some old pictures and came across a photoset I once made for a hummus recipe back when I wanted to try myself at food blogging. I don't know if I should include the recipe, because the only few times I made hummus I used dry chickpeas, resulting in a long and overly hard process (I was peeling them by hand too, which was a nightmare). I know, that most of the recipes use canned chickpeas, but those are not available in my country, so I had to manage with what I had at hand.

These had to soak in water for hours! And they were so hard to peel, even after I've figured out how to make the process faster. It was worth it though.

I've embroidered a few kitchen towels with characters from the Moomins! This is a simple backstitch. I looked at the illustrations in the book for reference.

So cute!

A few more pictures of the end product. Just looking at these pictures makes me crave hummus!

After I've peeled the chickpeas, it was quite easy to make, but looong! Boil the chickpeas till tender (I think it took more than an hour to cook). Blend with lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, sesame seeds (no tahini in Ukraine either), salt and pepper. I don't remember the exact measurements, but it even works adding everything to taste. My version of hummus is pretty dry and chunky, compared to what I see on other cooking blogs, but still delicious.

Recently I've seen hummus sold in supermarkets, but homemade is still best.

Yum!
